An OIF Short Film Challenge (script-to-screen), is where peers come together to hone their crafts via the creation and participation of an original independent production.
Please Visit the Challenge Page for important information on participating in the current Challenge: Origin Challenge

OIF Challenges provide participating filmmakers, crew and cast a platform that promotes their work, their exposure, building credits, increase hands-on experience, and their ability to expand their network. The Challenge culminates in a Red-Carpet Screening and Awards Gala, followed by a Networking Party. The final film projects and participants are eligible for OIF Crystal Awards. These serve as a stamp of recognition in the field for the participant’s talent. The more Challenges you join, the greater all these benefits become.

1- During the script submission phase, screenwriters submit a short script for consideration. Shortly after submissions close, selections are announced. Selected scripts, may then go into production.

2- Production then begins. Production teams enter the production phase by assembling cast, crew, and locations for the shooting day(s). Once he film is edited, it is submitted as an entry. Most of the films will be accepted and scheduled for screening unless they violate the rules. Selection of local crew and cast is easier using the private New York Area OIF Facebook group, where other members are registered and post the roles they would like to fill.

3- Judging. A panel of independent judges will judge the films for various criteria. Scores are tabulated and award nominees are announced. The winners are announced after the screening, at a Red-carpet Awards Ceremony.

4- Screening and Awards. Films are screened at a theater, followed by an awards presentation.

5- Networking Celebration. The Networking Party takes place at a nearby location. This is when attendees and guests can mingle and make those valuable connections between filmmakers, writers, directors, talent and crew.

It is FREE to join an OIF NY Short Film Challenge. Simply join our local private Facebook Group (subject to a simple admin approval process), and get started by following the conversations.

The entire process lasts several months, allowing ample time for pre-production, shooting, and post-production to take place.
